ferocious Finnish and Danish underground hordes did not turn down the offer from American label renowned for its raw black metal releases to record this split at a time [2004] when both were only laying foundations for their later careers: four Sargeist tracks immediately dominate with distinctly subpolar melancholy, near-dissonant unease and deeply scar-carving hysterical vocals that cannot fail to leave an impact, while Horned Almighty respond with more rhythm-driven, pounding, chaos-worshiping compositions whose harsh, emotionless nature recalls the roots of darkest musical genre and its connection to devilish rock’n roll, resulting in a contrasting yet cohesive split that remains an important document of classic black metal
