classic fourth album [1999] by grand masters of evocative gloom marks the significant shift from dark melancholic death metal with blackened overtones practiced up until this moment to something more personal, fragile, subtle and unique, re-inventing and introducing anew the epic progressive side of the band, refining a magical fusion of atmospheric interludes juxtaposed to slash'n'burn intense and complex metal roots - with a few of seven intricate compositions reaching ten minute mark, this grandiloquent opus sounds like musical reading of a book, where mesmerizing Face of Melinda invokes reactions in exceptionally haunting way, and music transforms into vivid, dramatic imagery; recent limited gatefold sleeve double black 180g vinyl edition comes with pro-printed inner sleeves, featuring modified artwork by original designer Travis Smith
