on this monstrous fifth full-length American icons of oppressive, hard hitting extremity display the strength of maturity, grown out of experience gained as a relentless touring machine: twelve tracks, including the five-part fifteen minute long concept opener Faust, are a crucial exercise in veracity, dripping with malevolence and eschewing superfluous parts for brutal, classic and refreshing death metal economy and effect, while their trademark dual vocal assault transmits and symbolizes the chaos of dystopian society gone mad, delving into themes of war, religion, state oppression, moral exhaustion, and dehumanization in the modern world, remarkably reinforcing bleak overall direction of ultra aggressive, uncompromising music
