Dark Tranquillity were on a constant move in search for their identity as a band within burgeoning Gothenburg scene since the very start, but this epic fourth longplay [1999] has turned out to become far more ambitious and daring move drifting away from typical scheme of things: not fully satisfied anymore with just playing fast, dynamic and harmonious, they slightly slowed the pace down to involve calmer atmosphere, filling up the space with clean singing, more experimental episodes, electronic accents and even psychedelic touch here and there, thus remarkably expanding on already diverse and intricate paradigm, emphasizing emotional contrast, richly expressive arrangements, and introspective, subtly dramatic narrative; recent German slipcase re-issue comes with a remastered sound, completely new artwork and four bonuses, including previously unreleased Asleep in The Bandaged Light song
