pivotal sixth longplay [1998] of typically clinical, extremely focused Cannibal crew is a reference point of sophisticated American death metal, marking the studio debut of guitarist Pat O'Brien, with yet sicker approach to intensity and cohesiveness of dynamic music exposed: masters of all things technical and heavy chop the heads, molest the bodies, suffocate, decapitate and break bones with surgical precision, yet it is only notional behaviour, masterfully embodied by oppressing guitar sound, while Corpsegrinder's roar drowns with a maddening bludgeoning hate; such cuts as Sentenced to Burn, I Will Kill You and the dreadful title track cannot leave a single fan indifferent, crafting an atmosphere that is both eerie and deeply engaging; recent European heavy cardboard sleeve black 180g vinyl edition comes with authentic LP design, pro-printed lyric insert and two-sided 60x60 cm artwork poster
