fundamental second full-length release of Burzum was recorded by Count alone in April 1992 at Grieghallen studio and - like his eponymous debut, took another tour on primeval, elemental, bludgeoning and intuitive creative process, transmitting the madness of Northern extremity to its fullest: Vikernes distances his music from more typical rock'n rollish Bathory and Venom agenda, manifesting it not just by hysterical oppressive wall of noise, but also very peculiar, haunting atmosphere and grim mood that characterizes this legendary project at its heyday, bravely incorporating rhythmless, ambient episodes into its innovative palette, with monotonous motifs and hypnotic repetition gradually drawing the listener into a dense, ritualistic haze of sound; latest slipcase re-issue comes with extra exclusive design and liner notes by Varg in the booklet
