Style: melancholic dramatic funeral doom metal

debut full-length by the band often regarded as godfathers of nautical funeral doom immediately captivated underground aficionados, standing out through a clear and consistently maintained concept closely tied to Moby Dick, the masterpiece novel published in 1851 by Herman Melville, granting the music a rare sense of cohesion, where massive guitar riffs embody the weight of vast, boundless ocean, while well-placed atmospheric, sometimes even ambient passages create an otherworldly sense of space and allow compositions to unfold naturally while retaining a clear structure, where Daniel Droste’s vocals, shifting dynamically from deep growls to expressive, somber clean singing, further enhance the narrative drama, turning this remarkable recording into not only an exceptionally strong debut, but also one of the most compelling conceptual albums in genre's history
