GRAVELAND / COMMANDER AGARES

Release Year: 2022
Artist Origin: POL/FIN
Style: grim epic pagan black metal

two standing out projects from Poland and Finland share this joint medium, sharing their hot inspirations: austere and slowly unraveling architecture of Graveland leans heavily on majestic mid-tempo pacing, evoking windswept ancient battlefields through layered, reverberating guitar lines and thickly textured synth backdrops, where combative rhythms pulse beneath stately melodic arcs, while Commander Agares responds with more raw, immediate vision, less monumental yet more urgent, driven by abrasive riffing, dry percussion, and snarling vocals that cut through a brittle, frostbitten atmosphere, forming a dialogue between panoramic grandeur and warlike minimalism; the contrast between Darken’s ritualistic, echo-laden vastness and Agares’ sharper, stripped-down aggression creates a tension that defines the split, as if channeling myth and conflict through opposing sonic philosophies
