DIMMU BORGIR

Release Year: 1997
Artist Origin: NOR
Style: haunting mystical atmospheric black metal

although started out together with other hordes in deep underground, the Oslo four-piece began to move their own unique way from the very beginning, soon giving the term atmospheric music a whole new meaning, when technical parameters, tempo or intensity became unimportant, and the dominant mysterious mood became omnipotent: one of the most significant, epic and bombastic releases by atmospheric black metal pioneers, the full-length debut [1994], where symphonic touch is still not as evident, gives way to mystic and grim powers that put hypnotizing spells and uncertainty around; surprisingly, vocalist Shagrath nailed down almost all drums and some guitars in here, while Draug Aldrahn and Vicotnik from Dodheimsgard both appear as guests on backing and even lead vocals; recent German edition comes with coloured cover artwork and two bonuses from early Inn I Evighetens Mørke EP [1994]
