before fully focusing on Katatonia progress, Anders Nyström, aka Blackheim, was involved into few more projects with much darker and grimmer approach, full of evil, devilish intentions, following the one-man band formula still very fresh back then: Diabolical Masquerade's debut longplay [1996] was completed entirely on his own, yet drum parts were programmed by Dan Swanö, laying down foundation for dynamic and intricate Scandinavian black metal school, rich in insane infernal harmonies, still running ahead of the pack with peculiar sinister feeling and special avantgarde touch that makes this music stay exceptional up until nowadays, bringing out searingly hellish harmonies that create atmosphere of claustrophobic horror, unpredictability and theatrical madness that draws the listener ever deeper into a darkening nightmare; recent British red 180g vinyl edition comes with a pro-printed lyric inner sleeve
