essential, fundamental, legendary debut [1996] by heathen black metal heroes was developed after the founding member, guitarist Øystein G. Brun [ex. Molested] felt a necessity to write some more epic and harmonious music, inspired by Norwegian landscapes, and soon after he has collected exceptionally strong line-up from black metal milieu to fulfill his perspective vision: vocalist Garm [Ulver, ex.Arcturus] delivers one of his best performances ever caught on tape, while Ivar Bjørnson [Enslaved] enriches the freezing yet poetic sound with mesmerizing keyboard lines, and rhythm section is shaped by bass performing Infernus [Gorgoroth] and drum rolls nailing Grim [Gorgoroth], admittedly adding their creative mastership and charisma as well - this recording was a root cause of the rise of epic primordial direction within extreme scene, prompting interest in Northern traditions and mythology; limited deluxe 25th anniversary gatefold sleeve double black 180g vinyl edition comes with a remastered sound, silver foil logo on front, pro-printed fold-out insert with liner notes, vintage images and lyrics printed for the first time, plus eight bonus live and alternative versions of album tracks on second vinyl
